Barn Sale for family and friends
June 25, 2019
There’s so much more to the annual MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale than incredible bargains on our one-of-kind furnishings, tableware, and seasonal items. Think of the Barn Sale, July 18–21 on our campus in Aurora, New York, as the perfect spot to celebrate summer, mark milestones, and honor traditions with your family and friends.
Adam and Vicky Waxman, who live south of Atlantic City, New Jersey, have been coming to the sale with their family for more than 20 years. In fact, they attended the first sale when their oldest child, 21-year-old Elliot, was a baby. Now, they also bring their daughters, Lulabelle, 19, and Tatianna, 15, and everyone dresses in attire inspired by our brand.
Over the years, the Waxmans have met many people at the sale who they now consider part of their extended family. Says Adam, “We are very excited to attend the 2019 Barn Sale to see our M-C family and meet new friends, as well as making some great purchases to add to our collection.”
Last year, friends Melinda Lawry and Janice Dance, of Birmingham, Alabama, experienced the sale for the first time, along with Janice’s college buddy, Lynn Walser, of Olathe, Kansas. The trip, Melinda says, was on her “bucket list” to celebrate her 50th birthday, so the trio made a whole day of it, shopping and touring our historic Farmhouse. Says Janice, “It was so much fun. It was amazing.”
Sisters Ginger Umosella, of Washington, D.C., and Lynda Pillsbury, of Pinehurst, North Carolina, also attended their first sale last year, wearing matching black and white checked dresses and pearls. Says Ginger, “We first came because of my love of Mackenzie-Childs, but it really turned out to be so much more. Not only is Aurora a beautiful place, but the people are some of the nicest we have ever met. We also spent time in line chatting with some very delightful and friendly people!”
Coleen Young, of Auburn, New York, met her best friend, Annette Perticone, of Rochester, New York, while they were standing in line at the Barn Sale in 2008. “We always say checks brought us together,” says Coleen. Now, they frequently see other throughout the year and always attend the Barn Sale together.
Paula Brachman, who lives near Buffalo, New York, is another MacKenzie-Childs lover. (“You name it, and I have it,” she says of her devotion to our brand.) She takes a mini vacation during the sale and rents a house in nearby Aurora for herself, her younger sister, and assorted friends. Last year, the group camped out the night before the sale on our campus and plans to do so again this year because the experience was so much fun.
If you haven’t already made plans to experience the sale, Paula would encourage you to do so. And don’t worry if you don’t already have a friend or a family member to bring along. Chances are very good that you’ll make some new friends at the sale.
Says Paula, “Everybody is lovely. It keeps getting bigger and better, and I can’t wait.’’
