Raise a glass to summer drinks

We know that summer feels good, with time spent in the warm sun or the cool shade, hopefully at the beach or lake, making memories with family and friends.

Summer should taste good too, right? We think so, which prompted us to ask Benjamin Maywalt, assistant dining room manager at the Inns of Aurora, to share a few recipes for refreshing summer drinks. These two recipes start with purees made with a simple syrup infused with fresh summer fruit. Served in our Tango glassware, they’re like summer in a glass, so let’s raise a toast and say cheers to the season!

Blackberry & Green Tea Mojito
1½ ounces Owney’s Rum
1½ ounces Blackberry & Green Tea Puree (directions below)
Splash of lime juice
Soda water
Fresh mint

Directions:
Add fresh mint and Blackberry & Green Tea Puree to the shaker, then muddle. Add the rum and ice. Shake. Strain contents into a glass and top with a little soda water. Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint.

Blackberry & Green Tea Puree
2 pints fresh blackberries, washed
3 quarts water
4 cups sugar
Green tea bags

Directions:
This can be made to your liking, depending on whether you like more blackberry or more green tea. Add blackberries, sugar, and water to a saucepan. Bring to a boil and let cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from the stove and add green tea the same way that you would make a cup of hot tea. Let the tea steep while the mixture cools. After cooling, remove the tea bags and process the mixture in a blender, creating a puree.

Strawberry Margarita
1½ ounces Arette Tequila
1½ ounces Strawberry Puree (directions below)
¾ ounces Cointreau
¾ ounces lime juice
Lime slices, fresh strawberry for garnish

Directions:
Build shaker with ingredients. Add ice. Shake. Strain into a glass. Garnish with a fresh strawberry and a lime wheel.

Strawberry Puree
2 pints fresh strawberries, washed and cut in quarters
3 quarts water
4 cups sugar

Directions:
Add strawberries, sugar, and water to a saucepan. Bring to a boil and let cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let mixture cool and process in a blender.
