Kiln Room

Mike plays a big role in our ceramics production as he oversees our kiln room. Mike has been with the company since 2008 and has been in the kiln room the entire time. He says he likes everything about his role except that it can get a little hot in the summer being in an environment where temperatures can get as high as 1900 degrees. One of the most important things that Mike does is to arrange the various pieces of pottery on large slabs that are rolled into the kilns for firing. Figuring out what works with what can be a bit of a puzzle, but it’s one that Mike has mastered. There are four different types of firing and most pieces have multiple firings. Mike, who lives in nearby Aurora, says he loves being outside and near Cayuga Lake when he isn’t working.
