MACKENZIE-CHILDS ACQUIRES PATIENCE BREWSTER, INC.

The Handmade, Hand-Painted Figurine Brand Will be a Welcome Addition to the MacKenzie-Childs Brand

AURORA, NY (August 31, 2018) – MacKenzie-Childs, the home furnishings design and manufacturing company based in Aurora, New York, is excited to announce the acquisition of local handcrafted collectible brand Patience Brewster, Inc. The brand founder and designer, Patience Brewster, will become a member of the MacKenzie-Childs creative team to support the design and development process to expand the Patience Brewster by MacKenzie-Childs collection.

Patience Brewster by MacKenzie-Childs will continue to include the original designs with the very same point of view it has always had. “The whimsical nature of the collection folds naturally into our brand, and it will be so much fun having these characters to include in our seasonal and holiday stories,” noted MacKenzie-Childs’ Creative Director and Chief Brand Officer Rebecca Proctor. “Both companies love happy, beautiful things that are made with care by hand, and we enjoy the idea of producing things that you can continue to love for a very long time,” said Proctor. Patience Brewster herself adds, “The instant Rebecca Proctor and I met, a harmonious synchronicity sparked, which made friendship and business possibilities appear rompingly endless.”

MacKenzie-Childs will incorporate products online and into catalogs and stores beginning this fall and will continue to introduce seasonal collections to its wholesale partners in 2019. Notable collections this fall include Dash Away Reindeer, Nativity, and 12 Days.

“Not only is Patience Brewster, Inc., a neighbor of ours in Upstate New York, it is a kindred spirit in its seasonal designs that will help our fans make their homes fun and exciting during the holidays,” said MacKenzie-Childs CEO John Ling. “I viewed the combination of two iconic and whimsical brands so natural, as we believe in the same things: fun, quirky, artisanal, positive, colorful, and authentic. It just made sense for us to become partners,” noted Ling.

MacKenzie-Childs sees the partnership of the two brands even further accelerating its already impressive growth in the seasonal home furnishings category.

Royal Check includes everything from dinner plates to canisters, serving platters, tea kettles, salt and pepper shakers, placemats, aprons, linens, etc.

MacKenzie-Childs Glow redefines the beauty of light through an extensive collection of dinner, pillar, scented, and iconic shaped candles. “We’ve partnered with Alina Bednarz, formerly of Et Al Designs, to create a new point of view on MacKenzie-Childs that celebrates a broader story of our direction in home,” noted John Ling, CEO of MacKenzie-Childs. “Alina is an extraordinary woman and tastemaker and we’re so happy to have her as part of our design team now to support our direction forward with candles.”

Additionally, MacKenzie-Childs will introduce a co-branded collection with SCOUT Bags which will feature patterned, portable coolers, and casserole carriers. Signature handles feature MacKenzie-Childs’ traditional Courtly Check pattern.

“This season is especially exciting for us,” noted Rebecca Proctor, Chief Brand Officer for MacKenzie-Childs. “Our designs came together beautifully for spring 2019 with a nod to British style campaign living with a bohemian spin, and a wink to the ’60s with a collection of furniture, elaborate pillows, and barware. MacKenzie-Childs Glow is a natural direction for us as well. We’ve been very busy to say the least! Hopefully, we’ve made the MacKenzie-Childs playground even more fun for our customers with all our new collections.”

The collection includes a sofa, large coffee table, chair, accent pillows, rugs, bar cart and barware set.

This collaboration pairs what we both do best; our patterns and colors hand in hand with their impeccable quality. There is so much to see from us this season! I’m also excited about the Marylebone furniture collection, inspired by recent trips to London. It’s all about upholstery, tables, cabinets, lighting, and textiles named after our favorite streets in that neighborhood. The chairs are comfortable and punctuated with upholstery tacks and beautiful fabrics.”

MacKenzie-Childs Celebrates the 20th Birthday of Courtly Check and the Launch of an Exciting New Category – Cookware

The performance based, decorative cookware is the ideal gift this fall & holiday entertaining season

AURORA, NY (August 1, 2016) – MacKenzie-Childs, the handcrafted home decor brand, is excited to celebrate the 20th birthday of its beloved “Courtly Check” collection with the launch of a new category – performance based, decorative cookware which is sure to please every home entertainer this fall and holiday season. The cookware line will launch mid-August in stores and online as well as with retail partners. MacKenzie-Childs will ramp up a celebration campaign during the month of September that includes instore events, promotional giveaways via social media, a new website and promotional appearances by Creative Director Rebecca Proctor.

Courtly Check is the black and white pattern the brand is most known for, some of which is still hand-painted to this day by artisans in the company’s upstate NY farm location. In 1995, MacKenzie-Childs launched a collection of hand-painted enamelware referred to as Roasted Marshmallow. The pattern was part of the Camp MacKenzie-Childs collection, but they soon discovered that it worked when layered onto formal place-settings. The deliberate but spontaneous use of additional colors dragged through each check made it unique--no two pieces were alike. The addition of caramel-like amber tones pulled through the creamy white and black checks was reminiscent of the look of marshmallows perfectly toasted. A few years later, an editor referred to MacKenzie-Childs as the “court jester” of tabletop and upon that comment Roasted Marshmallow was renamed more appropriately as Courtly Check.

“MacKenzie-Childs is on the cusp of an exciting time,” noted John Ling, CEO. “We’re continuing to challenge our designers and product development team to create products that appeal to both our collectors as well as to a new demographic of consumers. We’re very proud of our new cookware as it allows us to be innovators in the category and introduces consumers to cookware that is more than just a means to cooking a meal.”

MacKenzie-Childs cookware is constructed with a heavy weight steel underbody, glazed twice and then hand painted with our signature Courtly Check pattern. The enamel finish is incredibly hardy, and stain and chip resistant. Bronzed stainless steel rims are added to both the bodies and the lids, and the unique 18/10 stainless steel knobs and handles are added to finish each piece. The knobs, sculpted in the form of bird’s nests, flowers, and leaves are like pieces of jewelry on top of each lid; inspired by our gardens in Aurora, New York. The Cookware line will include 7 pieces all made from enamel featuring a 2.5 Qt. Saucepan ($125), 3 Qt. Sauté Pan ($165), 3 Qt. Casserole ($165), 5 Qt. Casserole ($170), 7 Qt. Stockpot ($180), 10 Qt. Medium Casserbole ($110) and the hero piece is the Roasting Pan with Rack ($125).

“We’re thrilled to be entering the cookware category,” said Creative Director Rebecca Proctor. “As a person who loves to cook and spend time in the kitchen, I’ve always been passionate about the idea of offering our own line that truly functions well and has our decorative signature. We’ve finally done it and I couldn’t be happier with our first launch. I’ve been tough on the prototypes and I’m proud to say they perform beautifully.”
