MacKenzie-Childs Debuts its First Ever Ceramic Capsule Collection in Partnership with Katey McFarlan

The Limited-Edition Collaboration Features a Bud Vase, Spoon Rest, and Berry Bowl, Handmade in Aurora

AURORA, NY (September 12, 2023) - Home décor brand MacKenzie-Childs announced the launch of its exclusive MacKenzie-Childs x Katey McFarlan Ceramic Collection created in collaboration with Katey McFarlan, the Texas-based creator behind Chronicles of Frivolity. This is the first limited-edition Made in Aurora ceramic collection created outside of the

MacKenzie-Childs design family.

McFarlan’s deep-rooted connection to MacKenzie-Childs dates back to her childhood when her dad gifted her mom one piece every year for Christmas and has blossomed into a lifelong admiration. Inspired by her cherished family memories and affinity for fresh flowers and butterflies, the three-piece capsule collection is an exquisite blend of McFarlan's vivacious style and MacKenzie-Childs' iconic craftsmanship.

“The Capsule Collection series is a celebration of artistic collaboration, storytelling, and exceptional design, and it’s an honor for us to introduce the series with Katey McFarlan, a lifelong supporter of the brand,” said Rebecca Proctor, Chief Brand Officer and Creative Director of MacKenzie-Childs. “We invite you to welcome Katey’s inspiring pieces into your home and to discover the beautiful balance of her spirited aesthetics and MacKenzie-Childs' enduring craftsmanship.”

All of the meticulously crafted pieces – the bud vase, spoon rest, and berry bowl – capture the essence of McFarlan's vision while adding a fresh twist to MacKenzie-Childs' renowned checks and introducing a brand new sponge pattern. Handmade in Aurora, each piece is uniquely crafted, making no two alike.

“I’m thrilled to kick off the Capsule Collection series with MacKenzie-Childs! After years of shopping the iconic brand, it was important to me to include those who inspire me, past and present, at the forefront of the collection,” Katey McFarlan added. “Each silhouette is representative of memories with my mom, Gigi, and my grandmothers, Meme and Nana, and the colors and patterns are a nod to my children and readers. I’m excited to see how my readers confidently and thoughtfully add the pieces to their space!”

This inaugural capsule collection seamlessly integrates McFarlan's distinctive style with MacKenzie-Childs' time-honored craftsmanship. Each piece is not only functional but also a reflection of McFarlan's unique design sensibilities.

The collection is now available to purchase, with the Bud Vase retailing for $148, the Spoon Rest for $88, and the Berry Bowl for $78. It’s also available as a three-piece set for $298. AMERICAN HERITAGE HOME DECOR BRAND MACKENZIE-CHILDS TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL ARTISAN CRAFT FESTIVAL THIS FALL

An Experiential Weekend to Celebrate What MacKenzie-Childs Cherishes Most, its Love for Art, Home, and All Things Handcrafted

AURORA, NY (March 7, 2022) - Today, MacKenzie-Childs, the artisan-driven American heritage home decor brand, is excited to announce that it will host approximately 150 hand-selected artisans at its headquarters in Aurora, NY, September 30 - October 2, 2022, for the first annual MacKenzie-Childs Artisan Craft Festival.

The outdoor event will highlight inspired design talent, specializing in handmade, handcrafted goods from a wide range of unique disciplines, including ceramics, jewelry, textiles, fine art, and many more. To ensure this experiential weekend was worth the two-year wait for the brand’s very loyal customer base, the festival will include hands-on craft experiences for attendees, demonstrations, one-of-a-kind pieces for sale, shopping in the MacKenzie-Childs Outlet store, food, and music.

The approximately 150 artisans featured in the event will be specially selected by a judging committee. Applications will be accepted April 1st and close April 22nd providing prospective exhibitors 21 days to enter for a chance to display its handmade creations at the festival. Additional details on the application process, judging committee, the announcement of the artisans selected to exhibit, etc. will all be on the MacKenzie-Childs Artisan Craft Festival webpage HERE.

“We couldn’t be more excited to host the MacKenzie-Childs Artisan Craft Festival in September. We have loved hosting our annual Barn Sale at the farm in the past, which allowed us to connect in-person with current and new customers and share our brand experience with them,” said John Ling, CEO of MacKenzie-Childs. “For obvious reasons, we had to cancel those in-person experiences over the past few years and as we looked to 2022, this felt like a beautiful and necessary evolution to that in-person experience.”

“We are and have always been a brand built out artisan-inspired pieces and currently employ more than 150 artisans at our Aurora headquarters,” said Rebecca Proctor, Chief Brand Officer and Creative Director of MacKenzie-Childs. “Elevating artisans of all disciplines is extremely important to us as a brand and will continue to be a focus for us in everything we do. Celebrating the happiness that unique designs can bring to someone else’s life is the heartbeat of our brand, and we look forward to watching that magic unfold for all the artisans and attendees this fall!”

MACKENZIE-CHILDS ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF INAUGURAL BLACK LIVES MATTER SCHOLARSHIP FOR DESIGN

The New Scholarship Encourages Five Black Students to Develop Their Abilities in the Fields of Design and Applied Arts in Pursuit of their Professional Goals and Personal Dreams

AURORA, NY (January 13, 2021) - MacKenzie-Childs, the artisan-driven, American heritage home decor brand, is honored to recognize the five winners of the inaugural MacKenzie-Childs Black Lives Matter Scholarship for Design. Recognizing education as a powerful tool, the scholarships aim to provide a positive impact at a critical time for Black students pursuing their future careers in the arts and design.

MacKenzie-Childs is passionate that “design” impacts almost everything around us and firmly believes it should thrive in nontraditional forms. The newly dubbed “MacKenzie-Childs Scholars” work across, and find inspiration in, a number of unique platforms and fields ranging from film and fine art to engineering. Each Scholar submitted an essay about where they find inspiration for their art and creativity and how they see that shaping their future for the chance to be awarded $5,000 to put towards higher education and beyond.

Each MacKenzie-Childs Scholar shared a quote about what design means to them:

  • Guidance Gunundu: “Design empowers me to tell my story in a uniquely visual way. It inspires me to empower generations and effectively depict my history, culture, surroundings, and my creativity.”
  • Tai Campbell: “Design is one of the only things that allows me to freely express myself. It inspires me to use creativity not only as an outlet but as a vessel for change. I can say confidently that design, and art in general, have changed my life for the better.”
  • Amuri Morris: “Design inspires me to build the bridge between reality and the imaginary.”
  • Javier Evans: “The quote by Torrie T. Asai that ‘Creativity is nothing but a mind set free’ resonates with me in that until you act upon your thoughts and let your mind go nothing will ever come from those ideas and thoughts.”
  • Temesgen Besha: “Art has always been a big part of who I am and it is something I deeply value.”

“MacKenzie-Childs believes that design is the very heartbeat of our company and that creating opportunities in the field of design is essential to our heritage and the future of design in all its forms,” says Rebecca Proctor, Creative Director, and Chief Brand Officer at MacKenzie-Childs. “This annual scholarship is intended to help Black youth and empower them to pursue careers in these all-important fields.”

John Ling, CEO, adds “We are very pleased to be in a position to help these young adults pursue their dreams in fields that will improve their lives and society as a whole.”

Submissions for next year's MacKenzie-Childs Black Lives Matter Scholarship for Design, due on June 30th, 2021, will be available through The University Network, a complete resource platform that helps high school seniors and enrolled college students connect with scholarship opportunities for higher education and beyond.

MACKENZIE-CHILDS INTRODUCES BIGGEST HOLIDAY COLLECTION EVER IN NEW LOCATION AT ATLANTA GIFT MARKET

ATLANTA, GA (January 14, 2020) - MacKenzie-Childs is pleased to introduce its 2020 Fall/Holiday collection to buyers and attendees of Atlanta Gift Market this week. The collection, which will be presented in a new, larger showroom, includes MacKenzie-Childs’ biggest holiday grouping ever.

“Our Fall/Holiday 2020 collection is filled with inspirations taken directly from colors, patterns, and fragrances in nature,” says Rebecca Proctor, creative director and chief brand officer for MacKenzie-Childs. “It’s our most compelling collection to date, and we’re so happy to debut it in our new showroom. Atlanta is sure to be a supercharged market this January, so stop by and see us!”

Rebecca says the designs for Fall/Holiday 2020 capture the energy and essence of amazing places and timeless, golden moments through two major collections that also make appearances for the holidays: Paradise and Golden Hour.

Paradise focuses on the lushness of nature with a passionate palette of rich floral and leafy fabrics on furniture pieces that include the Paradise Sofa and the Paradise Wing Chair. Both have hand-carved frames and are accented with hand-painted details, including Bittersweet Checks and animal spots, and trimmed with antiqued brass nailheads. Accent pieces in the collection, including pillows, rugs, and lighting, are lavishly detailed, too. The Paradise Table Lamp and Paradise Floor Lamp feature beautifully beaded bugs (with moveable appendages) on their shades, and those bugs are repeated on the charming Darwin Footstool. Meanwhile, there are intricately embroidered and beaded animals on the Cockatiel Pillow and the Leopard Pillow.

Golden Hour pays homage to that moment in the late afternoon when the light is sun-kissed and shimmering. Designs for this collection are viewed through a golden filter, pairing interesting metallic combinations and textures. The centerpiece of Golden Hour is the Golden Hour Dining Table, which features a porcelain top that’s stain- and heat-resistant and decorated with classic marble veining. Stunning details, including hand-painted Golden Hour Checks, are applied by artisans in Aurora, New York. The table rests on hand-glazed, hand-painted ceramic legs, also made in Aurora, and it comes with two leaves. Rounding out the Golden Hour collection are accompanying seating for the table, plus two new stunning chandeliers, pillows, and rugs.

Here’s a summary of what else to expect:

HOLIDAYS

MacKenzie-Childs’ largest-ever holiday collection is divided into four major groups: Happy Holidays, Patience Brewster, Paradise, and Golden Hour.

Happy Holidays highlights red and green, but with the unexpected twists on tradition that MacKenzie-Childs does so well. Many of the wreaths, swags, centerpieces, and other decor feature lush evergreens, embellished with holiday florals and accented with an abundance of Courtly Check and tartan. The collection includes Santas, ornaments, pillows, and stockings, too.

Patience Brewster by MacKenzie-Childs soars to new heights with a collection of angel ornaments in a variety of themes that feature Patience’s whimsical painterly touch. There are also candleholders that resemble angel wings, and angels are featured on stockings and pillows. Finally, there are additional Nativity figures and some large holiday animals that are sure to become holiday focal points, including a cow that is aptly named Holy Cow.

Holiday also carries over into the two new furniture collections, Paradise and Golden Hour, with the colors from those groups featured in table decor, wreaths, ornaments, ribbons, floral picks, and more.

AUTUMN/HALLOWEEN

The MacKenzie-Childs pumpkin patch continues to grow with new colors and patterns that will complement existing MacKenzie-Childs pumpkins. There are black and white pumpkins with modern motifs, plus those decorated with tartan and embossed mosaic designs. More pumpkins and additional decor can be found in the Autumn Naturals group, which features soft and elegant elements of cream, copper, sage, and verdigris. Finally, look for Patience Brewster’s fun collection of long-legged crows and her lavishly and lovingly detailed Halloween witches, depicted in figures and a bewitching snow globe.

GLOW HOME APOTHECARY

MacKenzie-Childs Glow Home Apothecary, which was introduced in fall 2019 with the Winter Bouquet fragrance, continues to expand the relationship between home and nature with products that include soaps, lotions, room diffusers, candles, tassels, and potpourri. There will be five additional introductions at the Atlanta Gift Market, including Flower Market (floral tones with light musk and woody notes), Paradise (lime zest and bergamot), Studio (fragrance-free), Golden Hour (roses and mandarin blossoms), and Figmalion (warm fig and amber).

The new MacKenzie-Childs showroom is in AmericasMart Building 2, Suite 900, during The Atlanta Gift Market, January 14–21, 2020.

ATLANTA, GA (January 11, 2018) - MacKenzie-Childs, the handcrafted home decor brand, is pleased to introduce its 2018 holiday collection to buyers and attendees of Atlanta Gift Market this week. Holiday 2018 was a very thoughtful design process for the brand, with dedicated focuses on developing collections appealing to the customer’s desires for a range in color palettes and striving for excellence in the quality of product delivered. MacKenzie-Childs has grown the fall category again this year, offering more decor pieces, rugs, linens, etc. for the seasonal shopper. “Fall & holiday 2018 is our most exciting ever,” said Rebecca Proctor, Chief Brand Officer. “Pheasant Run, our new dinnerware collection, leads the season for us. It’s the first time we’ve designed specifically for the Thanksgiving table and it’s perfect for anyone who appreciates the autumnal palette so dear to us in the Northeast. We’re also really pleased to continue our partnership with our friends and Upstate New York neighbors, Beekman 1802. This collaboration pairs what we both do best; our patterns and colors hand in hand with their impeccable quality. There is so much to see from us this season! I’m also excited about the Marylebone furniture collection, inspired by recent trips to London. It’s all about upholstery, tables, cabinets, lighting, and textiles named after our favorite streets in that neighborhood. The chairs are comfortable and punctuated with upholstery tacks and beautiful fabrics.”

Provided below is an overview of some of the more notable holiday collections for 2018.

  • Pheasant Run: This festive dinnerware collection is our answer to a porcelain option during the fall and holidays. With elements of Courtly Check woven into a bright color palette of acorns, squash, wheat stalks, pheasant feathers, and cabbage, the collection features dinner, salad, and dessert plates; a tea set; a full glassware set; and serving platters and bowls.

MACKENZIE-CHILDS INTRODUCES AN EXCITING SPRING COLLECTION AT ATLANTA GIFT MARKET

ATLANTA, GA (July 11, 2017) – MacKenzie-Childs the handcrafted home decor brand is pleased to introduce its 2018 spring collection to buyers and attendees of Atlanta Gift Market this week. As the brand continues to create innovative, whimsical, festive, and decorative products for collectors and new customers alike, they’re proud to introduce a very thoughtful spring collection that features rich and colorful furniture pieces, a new all-white dinnerware collection, seasonal offerings and a wider range of price points allowing customers and collectors more opportunities to engage with their products.

In the spring of 2017, MacKenzie-Childs introduced its first porcelain dinnerware collection with Thistle & Bee appealing to the wedding registry customer and is excited to expand the wedding collection this year with a new line of all-white ceramic dinnerware called Sweetbriar. In addition, MacKenzie-Childs worked hard to provide new home decor solutions for seasons such as Easter and summer entertaining as well as build out the pets and bathroom categories.

“The spring 2018 Collection is full of new ideas from us, some of which may surprise you,” said Rebecca Proctor, creative director. “Sweetbriar ceramic dinnerware is a radical addition to our collection because it’s white! MacKenzie-Childs is known for color and pattern, but this season we embrace pattern in a whole new way by embossing signature graphic elements into each creamy white silhouette. It’s perfect for wedding registry and also practical for everyday use. Each piece is handmade by our incredible artisans on our farm in Aurora, NY. Our terra cotta clay body is barely visible beneath the surface of the glaze, adding a beautiful effect to every piece. I absolutely love it.”

Provided below is an overview of some of the more notable spring collections for 2018.

  • Sweetbriar: a complete dinnerware line including stemware, flatware, linens and faux florals. The handmade ceramic pieces are all made in Aurora, NY and feature texture, embossed, debossed checks, flowers and different layers to build a gorgeous dinner table. All stemware is mouth blown in Romania and hand painted. The check patterned stainless-steel flatware collection features 24 karat gold plated handles. The collection is complete with table top linens and faux floral pieces that work seamlessly together and are great to mix and match with.
  • Queen Bee: a luxurious furniture and decor collection inspired by the Queen of the Hive (household) in yellow, gold and black hues. The collection includes a wing chair, loveseat, ottoman, side table, tuffet, pillows, rugs, a hand painted writing desk, wallpaper, lamp and scented candles.
  • Patisserie: a whimsical pastel furniture collection combining some familiar patterns to the brand in a unique new way. Never before has MacKenzie-Childs incorporated a Taylor ceramic pattern into furniture! Additionally, the fabrics will be a mix of marbleized and lattice fabrics. MacKenzie-Childs Celebrates the 20th Birthday of Courtly Check and the Launch of an Exciting New Category – Cookware

The performance based, decorative cookware is the ideal gift this fall & holiday entertaining season

AURORA, NY (August 1, 2016) – MacKenzie-Childs, the handcrafted home decor brand, is excited to celebrate the 20th birthday of its beloved “Courtly Check” collection with the launch of a new category – performance based, decorative cookware which is sure to please every home entertainer this fall and holiday season. The cookware line will launch mid-August in stores and online as well as with retail partners. MacKenzie-Childs will ramp up a celebration campaign during the month of September that includes instore events, promotional giveaways via social media, a new website and promotional appearances by Creative Director Rebecca Proctor.

Courtly Check is the black and white pattern the brand is most known for, some of which is still hand-painted to this day by artisans in the company’s upstate NY farm location. In 1995, MacKenzie-Childs launched a collection of hand-painted enamelware referred to as Roasted Marshmallow. The pattern was part of the Camp MacKenzie-Childs collection, but they soon discovered that it worked when layered onto formal place-settings. The deliberate but spontaneous use of additional colors dragged through each check made it unique--no two pieces were alike. The addition of caramel-like amber tones pulled through the creamy white and black checks was reminiscent of the look of marshmallows perfectly toasted. A few years later, an editor referred to MacKenzie-Childs as the “court jester” of tabletop and upon that comment Roasted Marshmallow was renamed more appropriately as Courtly Check.

“MacKenzie-Childs is on the cusp of an exciting time,” noted John Ling, CEO. “We’re continuing to challenge our designers and product development team to create products that appeal to both our collectors as well as to a new demographic of consumers. We’re very proud of our new cookware as it allows us to be innovators in the category and introduces consumers to cookware that is more than just a means to cooking a meal.”

MacKenzie-Childs cookware is constructed with a heavy weight steel underbody, glazed twice and then hand painted with our signature Courtly Check pattern. The enamel finish is incredibly hardy, and stain and chip resistant. Bronzed stainless steel rims are added to both the bodies and the lids, and the unique 18/10 stainless steel knobs and handles are added to finish each piece. The knobs, sculpted in the form of bird’s nests, flowers, and leaves are like pieces of jewelry on top of each lid; inspired by our gardens in Aurora, New York. The Cookware line will include 7 pieces all made from enamel featuring a 2.5 Qt. Saucepan ($125), 3 Qt. Sauté Pan ($165), 3 Qt. Casserole ($165), 5 Qt. Casserole ($170), 7 Qt. Stockpot ($180), 10 Qt. Medium Casserbole ($110) and the hero piece is the Roasting Pan with Rack ($125).

“We’re thrilled to be entering the cookware category,” said Creative Director Rebecca Proctor. “As a person who loves to cook and spend time in the kitchen, I’ve always been passionate about the idea of offering our own line that truly functions well and has our decorative signature. We’ve finally done it and I couldn’t be happier with our first launch. I’ve been tough on the prototypes and I’m proud to say they perform beautifully.”
